Allison at545 transmission parts breakdown manual#

I have converted a bunch of those buses that originaly had Spicer CM4054D/ES42 manual transmissions to the AT's and I think it is much easier to convert the way you would go. I would have to check my parts manual to see if the MT was an option with the 9.0 and if you need a special flex plate or adaptor. I belive the bell housing is a sae#3 with an #3 to #2 adaptor bolted to it, used for the AT545. I dont think you would have any problems bolting it up.

and if im not mistaken I get a one (1) year 12,000 mi warranty?Īs per Wagonmasters reply, any auto trans you put in there will need to be calibrated for a 2800 RPM engine. If I go to allison and get my 545 rebuilt about (ballpark) how much will it set me back. Unless I drop the Automatic Transmisssion idea and convert to a 5 or 6 speed manual thats a little more involved. The engine I have in the bus is really strong it moves down the interstate at 65 - 68 MPH (another reason i want to switch to a 643) The engine is not tached out but the transmission is whining. I know that the MT643 is a better transmission that an AT545 I have one behind a DT466 and that bus moves quite well although im comparing apples to oranges. I went and completley serviced the transmission (the fluid was black) and it shifts sometimes into high gear. The 545 that is in there now does not want to shift into high gear. Actually its on its 2nd transmission according to my records on that bus. Is there a problem with your AT-545? 545's will live just fine behid a 9.0 should you decide to go that way. as Brad said measure the trans and see if is different. You can take them the valve body and they will adjust it for proper shift RPM. Anyone with a valve body machine (rebuilder) can reprogram it for you. The 643 will need to have the proper shift points in the valve body to ensure optimum performance. If there is a slight length difference it could be adjusted with the driveshaft by cutting it, etc. Your local Detroit Diesel Allison dealer could tell you exactly. You will probably have to change the flexplate. You will have to measure the overall length of a 643 to compare to the 545. The one thats in there now works once and a while im im leary of it. Im looking at used transmissions because I dont want to spend for a new one or a rebuild. Or should I not waste my time and keep looking for a 545. do I have to shorten it? Also, would I be able to "fit" it in there. I want to take the 545 out and pop in a MT643 Trans would that couple up to the engine? How would it affect the drive shaft I.e. I have a 1987 International with a 9.0L engine and a Allison 545 Trans.
