LSH3 Edition 2015 consists of a main mod and twenty carefully matched additional mods and extensions which can be activated individually. The Wolves of Steel mod for SH5 is sort of the spiritual successor to GWX, and does fix A LOT of these bugs but some of them I guess were unfixable and it can still be frustrating. The SuperMod has been developed for the last five years and comes with a balanced collection of free mods, tools and patches for the original game Silent Hunter III of Ubisoft.
The thing slowing me down is that I've heard the campaign in Silent Hunter IV isn't near as good as the painstakingly detailed GWX 3.0 Mod. SH IV allows Widescreen and also has better graphics. Silent Hunter seems to be a game that you would want the immersion factor. The vanilla game is just about unplayable. It does have a wide screen fix built in but not for higher resolutions. As far as I know you can not play in widescreen in Silent Hunter III. It has better graphics and you can explore the whole sub but its vanilla version has some horrible bugs, a campaign that breaks as soon as you get any original ideas on patrols, awful AI with convoys that just randomly park themselves in the middle of the ocean and let you obliterate them, escorts with vampire vision that can spot your periscope at 10km in thick fog and then attack you for hours without ever dropping a depth charge but just passing overhead endlessly.the list goes on. When the game is run in fullscreen mode it can be run successfully in 1920x1080 (with a bit of simple modding). You can run this game in windowed mode by default, but then there is only one fixed resolution, 1024x800.
SH5 is like SH3 but worse in almost every way. Been trying to use this seemingly very useful program with Silent Hunter 3. SH4 is probably the best game "straight-out-of-the-box", I never bothered with mods for that one because I didn't feel it needed them.
SH3 is a great game, the vanilla game is a little buggy, SH3+GWX(overhaul mod) is the best subsim I've ever played.
